These 4 things are ruining your toys - SexCoach Blog

You and your favourite toy are meant to create juicy and satisfying experiences (at least for you). So making it the longest lasting and healthiest journey is essential. And there are several ways that can ruin this and kill your toy.
What are the main things damaging your toy?
Choose the proper lube
Lube can make a huge difference in your pleasure journey. We love how effortless and easy they can make our encounters. Still it is very common that people don’t know that silicone lubes are a no go with silicone toys (this is also true for most jelly toys). Their base is the same and they can merge together. This changes the structure of the toy. It will feel different and usually you can even see the difference. The toy is broken and it is not safe to use anymore.
So if you have a silicone toy, please choose a waterbased lube. Hybrid lubes are 1 part silicone and 1 part waterbased lube. Hence they are not “only” silicone, they are a bit less prone to causing problems, but please use them with caution. ONe of the main things is to leave the lube as little on the toy as possible and clean them right away after every use. The longer the silicone is on the toy, the more damage it can cause.
I have heard that better quality silicone toys are less prone to be damaged, but my experience says otherwise. After you have seen a toy totally fluffed up because of the lube, you take this more seriously.
Water-based lubes are totally safe to be used with all kinds of toys without any damage. A good, premium, water-based lube is not necessarily sticky and you don’t need to reapply it as often. My favourites are the System JO - H2O Lubricant and the Fist It Natural Lubricant.
Clean it the right way
It is not easy to find the right balance of being delicate enough while you clean your toys properly. With a glass or a steel toy you can do the most without any damage. You can boil them in hot water, put them in the dish washer and you get a clean toy that is safe to use.
But silicone and jelly toys are more vulnerable. The safest way to clean them is to use non fragranced hand soap and warm water. Using a brush to access all the nooks and crannies can provide a more thorough clean especially if the toy is textured, Harsher chemicals can cause problems.
Toy cleaner sprays and toy cleaning wipes are safe to use. Some products are fine with cleaners containing alcohol and some not, so reading the instructions of the manufacturer can be essential.
Storage can make a difference
Have you seen toys merging together? I did. This usually happens with lower quality silicone toys, but it happens. It doesn’t look good and it is easily avoidable. Please store your silicone and jelly toys in separate bags in order to keep them in their best condition.
The lowest maintenance toys are the ones made of steel. They can be with you for decades regardless of what kind of lube you use and how you store them. So think about your priorities and what is important for you before choosing a toy.
The wrong charger can kill your toy too
Of course this is only true for rechargeable toys. The thing is that I have experienced all of these damaging “results” (except the cleaning one). One of my favourite rechargeable rabbit vibrators died because I tried to use the wrong charger. This was a magnetic one, and even though the other charger fit perfectly visually, still my rabbit died right away and I could do nothing about it. I have lots of toys, and I had to find ways to keep the chargers with them, so that this doesn’t happen again.
And yes, please always check if your toy is waterproof or “just” submersible if you want to play in water.
Why lose your favourite toy, when you don’t need to?
Take care of your toys properly and think about what you are willing to do in order to keep them for longer, so that they can make you happy again and again and again.
